Behind the Scenes of Miss "PerfeKtly In Place"
Hey y'all! My name is Kierra, also known as “Keeks” to some; and I am currently a senior in college, matriculating in the wonderful field of nursing. I was blessed enough to be initiated into the first and the finest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in the Fall of 2013. Here, I received my "line name" 'PerfeKtly in Place' and it has stuck with me ever since! My heart belongs to the great state of Texas, as it always will. I'm a great little combination of southern chic (as my mother is from Louisiana; and that is where I attend school), a dash of sophisticated grace (as influenced by my North Dallas upbringing), and a sprinkle of tom-boyish ways (thanks to my loving, Christian father). Who else can say they love to wine & dine and shop ‘til they drop; yet will wake up in the morning just to catch “First Take”; and has a sickening addiction to the Texas Rangers? ( I love you Andrus!)
Growing up, I was blessed to share most of my experiences with my immensely beautiful little sister Kourtney, who might I add, is only 22 months younger than myself. So when I say we are close... I mean we are CLOSE. Now, although we have shared many family trips and midnight “Twilight” premieres (for every single “Twilight” movie that has hit the big screen), we were different in many ways growing up. She was the slender-and-toned cheerleader, the standout theatre girl, well dressed PESH girl and all- around fun socialite throughout middle school and high school, also known as the "beauty". While I, on the other hand, well, I was quite the opposite. I found myself to be more introverted. I was your typical baggy t-shirt wearing, HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) officer, SGA participant, stay-home-and-read kind of girl... also known as the "brains". But to add to the struggles of an already nerdy teenager, I was a tad bit overweight. Well, a lot overweight.

This ‘baggage’, for lack of a better term, had a hold on me that I didn't shake until college. No, I didn't get asked to homecoming with a big banner or have matching mums with my date, I didn't even have a date! Prom... Yeah, I was third wheeling it with my best friend… lol! First kiss? What was that? I was too shy to even be around guys, except for my friends. The term "boyfriend" was foreign to me until college. Despite it all, my experiences weren't all too bad. I did come out with some of the best friends I ever had, Lauren M. and Emily B. You may see them a time or two in this blog.
Some may wonder, "why is a nursing major writing a fashion/lifestyle blog?" "Shouldn't she be a mass communications major or something?" My answer to that is... “Why the hell can't I?”... lol! This blog is my public diary for this new stage in my life. After shaking more than 50 pounds of weight off, I can finally breathe for the first time. I'm comfortable wearing what I want (within reason of course); and seeking out opportunities to enjoy the rest of my 20's in style. For the first time ever, I am truly living. What many people were blessed to experience in their teenage years, I'm just now experiencing for the first time… first love (first heartbreak), first road trip, first drunken college party, first everything! This blog will cover everything from my summer experiences, college life, fashion, beauty, food, and more. It's a great concoction of everything I missed in my teens; and everything I will experience in my 20's. So join me on this journey on a little road I like to call, “life”, because for the first time ever, I finally feel ‘perfektly in place’; and I'm ready to take the world by storm.
